Why use GSD ?
For any business to remain competitive accurate Standard Times for manufacturing methods must be determined. Conventional work measurement techniques (e.g. time study) require many hours of real-time stopwatch studies, and to be timed in this way the process , or "operation" must be "in place" before it can be evaluated. Timing processes after they have been implemented may be too late if price and delivery dates have already been agreed.
A "Predetermined Time System" is the preferred choice for many businesses, because a "PTS" has the ability to accurately and consistently establish manufacturing methods and times prior to production. A PTS may also be used at the product development stage, thereby providing valuable information on costs and production capacity before discussions/negotiations with buyers on price and delivery.
GSD is the world leader "PTS" for the sewn products industry, providing two key benefits; GSD is a predictive tool, enabling the user to predetermine manufacturing methods and costs & focuses on method rather than time, thereby ensuring that motion economy is optimized and wasted time eradicated.
Statistically proven time standards are inherent within the system, so, describing the "method" determines the time it will take to complete any given task and allows one method can be compared to another to establish which is more productive.
GSD is subsequently used in product development for product costing, planning, initial line balancing and machinery requirement evaluation, and it is used on the factory floor as an Industrial Engineering tool to optimize productivity and minimise manufacturing costs - all of which leads to an improved competitive edge.
